Chan 2016: Mali Overcomes Ivory Coast to Reach Finals


76th minute super substitute, more about buy more about Yves Bissouma scored a last minute goal against Ivory Coast to send Mali into their first ever finals in the Africa Nations championship.

The game that was characterized by endless attacks on both sides seemed to be heading for another 30 minutes of extra time  but Sekou Diarra initiated a move with a cross that met Hamidou Sinayoko, sale who headed to Bissouma.

The recipient beat his marker and fired from close range past Ali Badra in goal. Bissouma had come in the 76th minute to replace Koita.

Mali had a chance to end first half with a lead but missed after Coulibaly’s penalty was tipped over the bar by Ivory Coast keeper Ali Badra.

In the other semi final played on Wednesday, tournament favorites DR Congo narrowly defeated debutants Guinea 5-4 in post match penalty kicks.

Mali will face DR Congo in Sunday’s final whilst Ivory coast battles out with Guinea for the third place that come with a bronze.

How Mali reached finals
Mali finished as runners up in group D with five points from three games. The group had Uganda, Zimbabwe and leaders Zambia. The West Africans came from a goal down to defeat Tunisia 2-1 in the quarter finals setting a date with Ivory Coast.
