Tanzania narrowly overcame Rwanda in a five goal thrilling action in a group B opening fixture in the 2016 CECAFA women championship played on Monday at the FUFA technical centre in Njeru.

The Tanzanians meant business from the first whistle making their way into the Rwandans box but a first minute effort by Amina Ally went begging.

Rashid Aisha unlocked the deadlock after only three minutes burying home inside a goal melee which Edith Umulisa had failed to clear off on time.

Abdalla Stumai doubled the score after 24 minutes with a beauty from a rare angle. Donisia neutralized Mukeshimana’s attack inside Tanzanian half and set off Amina Ally who dazzled past three player down the left flank before switching to Abdalla who took advantage of Rwandan Keeper Abass Najat’s slow reaction to send home a stunning shot.

Coach Marie was forced to make a 34th minute substitution to try and manage the damage bringing in Florence Imanazibayo for for Callixte Iradukunda.

Florence brought immediate impact with her dribbles forcing she-Amavubi stars in their half. The pint sized midfielder created the first goal from a cheeky 42nd minute freekick which Daniel Donisia headed into her own net. Florence was back again a minute later with a mazy run from the right wing before crossing low.

Another miscommunication in the back line caused Anastazia Anton to direct the ball to her own goal.

Asha Rashid sealed the win for the Swahili nation in the 67th completing Fatuma Bashiri’s cross.

Rwanda will return to action on Wednesday in a must win match against Ethiopia.
