Cardiologist Confirms Kayanja Poisoning

“A motivated and engaged workforce, supported by excellent processes, and a strong financial base that delivers superior results, will all work together to give members a reason to choose to stay with NSSF,” he added.

The Members Meeting attracted over 700 people, including NSSF contributors, employers, workers unions’ representatives, government representatives and members of the public, at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The remarks come at a time of strict scrutiny of the Fund’s operations especially the multi-million shilling investments.

The Fund recently bought a 2.4 percent stake worth $45.7 million at Equity Bank from London-based Helios EB Investors and intends to commit billions of shillings into property investments.

Customer satisfaction

Byarugaba said over the next 10 years, Fund objectives are to help the fund achieve growth in customer satisfaction to over 90 percent, provide members with a return of at least 2 percent above 10 year inflation, grow the Fund size to Shs20 trillion and become one of best pension Fund worldwide.

“To build a strong financial base, we aim at preserving our member savings through prudent investments that provide for a real return to members,” said Byarugaba, adding, “This will be determined by improvement in compliance and unlocking the value in key projects in Lubowa, Pension Towers and Temangalo.”

The three projects have been on hold due to corruption cited by whistleblowers and auditors in the procurement processes.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija commended the Fund’s strategic plan and vision.

“As Government we shall maintain interest in the Fund. We are keen on seeing the Fund, the country’s National scheme and largest financial institution, continue to remain a major player in the sector and play an even bigger role in the economic development of the country,” he observed.

He challenged Bank of Uganda and other government statutory bodies to come up with innovative financial products such as infrastructure bonds and municipal bonds that provide a good return on investment to tap into the growing NSSF investment portfolio.

Officials said the annual meeting is in fulfilment of the Fund’s commitment to Transparency and Accountability.

At the same event, 25 companies were recognized for compliance over the last year basing on the “360 degrees compliance check.”

Barbra Arimi, NSSF Head of Marketing and Communications, said “For employers, these contributions should be remitted on time, and in the right amounts of money as per their legal obligations,”

The Fund announced an interest rate of 13 percent for the Financial Year 2014/15.

According to the set guidelines, access to the venue will be restricted to authorized persons alone.

“Aspirants must use 2 vehicles with whose occupancy should not exceed 20 persons,” said Kiggundu.

Exception however, has been made to President Museveni to access Nambole with his entire security detail as provided for in the law.

Eng Kiggundu asked candidates to conduct their campaigns in line with harmonized and approved campaign programmed which will be shared with all stakeholders.

Meanwhile, after the nomination exercise, two of the presidential candidates Hon Amama Mbabazi and President Yoweri Museveni have scheduled massive rallies at the Kololo Independence grounds at the same time.

According to one of Mbabazi’s top strategists and DP president Norbert Mao, thousands of Go Forward supporters after Mbabazi’s nomination will be converging at the independence grounds.

“Owing to these numbers, we found that there was no other place we could hold this rally other than Kololo,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

He however revealed that they were aware that President Museveni booked the same venue for his rally after nomination.

If blocked by police from accessing the venue, Mao said the supporters will pour on the streets of Kampala.

 
The mother of the NRM Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko who was yesterday involved in serious accident with her daughter is expected to be discharged in the next two days.

Mrs Catherine Mirembe was also admitted to Nakasero Hospital on Tuesday morning together with the three other occupants of the car after life threatening head-on collision along Bombo road when they were accompanying Namayanja to a function in Luwero district.

Mirembe had suffered compound arm fracture and head injury when she was admitted at the executive facility according to the information from the NRM Secretariat Spokesman, mind http://davidcenter.ro/components/com_k2/models/item.php Rogers Mulindwa and the Nakasero Hospital Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Ben Mbonye.

Dr Batambuze Winston, view http://daa.asn.au/wp-admin/includes/admin.php a cardiologist who attended to Brigadier Elly Kayanja in 2013 after he was allegedly poisoned, adiposity testified yesterday against the suspect Sekitto Alex Kayanja.

Sekitto, mind nephew to Brig Kayanja is facing trial at the Buganda road court for the alleged attempted murder on the former Operation Wembley commander.

73 year old Dr Batambuze who works at Kakasero Hospital and Uganda Heart Institute told court presided over by Chief magistrate Flavia Nabakooza that on 23rd January 2013 at around 10.30pm, Brigadier Kayanja was admitted at Nakasero under critical conditions.

“On admission to the intensive care unit, he was complaining of gastric pain, he was sweating excessively, very cold and he had too much saliva flowing out of his mouth with diarrhea,” submitted Dr Batambuze

Upon physical examination, Dr Batambuze revealed that Kayanja’s chest was full of secretions, moderate obesity in abdomen and there was no free food in the abdomen.

“Before discharging the patient to case clinic we found out that he had too much organal phosphate poisoning. Electricity was used in awakening Kayanja’s heart which was not functioning very well,” revealed Dr Batambuze.

Brig Kayanja apparently informed the doctors that the situation worsened after the dinner that contained rice, fish and peanut with his family.

The case was adjourned to 26th November for further hearing.
