Political leaders and security officials in Busoga Sub Region have welcomed the Anti-pornography Act 2014 as a timely remedy to the permissive and morally degenerating society.

Speaking during a sensitization meeting at Bugembe Katwe zone in Bugembe town council, more about the town council chairperson Stephen Wante said the Act has come at a time when acts of prostitution have become rampant in developing towns and trading centres.
“I hear these days, prostitutes are running from the city and towns like Jinja to booming trading centres and towns like Bugembe, Mbiko and Magamaga where they are not known and can easily hook up with potential clients. This vice needs to be curtailed if we shall combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and that act must prevail” Wante said.
The meeting was attended among others by Jinja Resident District Commissioner, John Rex Achilla, officials from the Uganda Human Rights Commission and human Centre Uganda to enlighten the community on the Anti-Pornography Act 2014.
Jinja RDC John Rex Achilla asked parliament to urgently enact this Act in order to help and guide the public into moral wrongs and moral rights for a friendly society and preservation of the African cultural
norms and customs.
“Even leaders are still very ignorant about this law which makes it very hard to apply it in punishing and incriminating its offenders. Yet surely if we don’t start today, the young generation could be completely spoilt tomorrow” RDC said.
According to Nambi Babra the programs coordinator, Uganda Human Rights Commission and Human Centre Uganda, the campaign in Eastern region started from Mbale, Tororo and finally Jinja to sensitize masses the dangers on pornography and how to avoid it.
“We have registered many such cases resulting from indulging in pornography, that’s why we’re coming here to give you an insight of its contents before it catches up with members of the public” she added.
