Bukenya Is Papyrus, Not Mahogany – Mao

“They are currently in a closed door meeting with some selected DP leaders,” reports Segawa.

Before walking into the meeting today, Bukenya said, “These reports that I am defecting to DP are rubbish. My visit is just coming together to fight a common enemy and foster change in this nation ahead of the 2016 elections,” said Bukenya.

The former ‘number two’ whose escapades with female celebrities pushed him into a collision course with his boss, President Museveni, the Catholic Church and Buganda Kingdom before falling from grace,  said opposition must unite to defeat the incumbent leader in the upcoming elections.

Bukenya, whose reign characterised heavy political battles with then powerful Security Minister and presidential hopeful, Amama Mbabazi, added that the visit is also intended to “see how I can help end wrangling within the mother Democratic Party.”

DP has been struggling with internal wrangles, compelling party president Norbert Mao to step aside.

“I will visit even other headquarters of political parties because our aim is seeing that we field a single candidate in all elective positions even at constituency level,” said Bukenya.

Bukenya has been mulling the possibility of standing against Museveni in 2016 but according to unfolding events, the opposition are trying to form an alliance against the incumbent.

A united front would give Museveni a run for his money as he has always exploited divisions in opposition to win previous presidential elections.

However, the opposition camp is yet to overcome tribal and religious sentiments to put in place a joint candidate to challenge Museveni, whom the NRM party declared as their sole candidate in the 2016 elections.
Bank of Uganda has this morning announced takeover of management of Kenyan based Imperial Bank Ltd.

Imperial Bank is ranked as a mid-tier bank with operations in Kenya and Uganda.

The Central Bank Governor Prof Emanuel Tumusiime Mutebile told journalists in Kampala that Bank of Uganda was exercising its powers under Section 88 of the Financial Institutions Act (2004) to seize control of the bank.

It appointed the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation to assume the management and control of Imperial Bank for a period of twelve months

He said the move was aimed at ensuring that depositors in Uganda are protected against possible effects of the decision taken by Central Bank of Kenya.

“I have been thinking about this and I even asked him [Mbabazi]; ‘are you not going to make a U-turn?’ And his response was that he would make such an announcement when I am out of the country because he knew what I am capable of doing to him,” Mao narrated.

“But that was just a question for argument, I don’t think the two characters are the same; Prof. Bukenya has no back borne, he is like a worm. In the field of anatomy which Bukenya knows better, he is an invertebrate.”

“He calls himself Mahogany but we now all know that he is a papyrus, we wish him well where he has gone but as the bible says, when God told Lot and his wife to go forward never to look back, the wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt,” Mao noted.

Meanwhile, the DP President vowed to field a strong DP candidate in Busiro North with the aim of pushing Bukenya out of parliament.

“Bukenya was not on our hit list but now he is; we shall do all that it takes to make sure he doesn’t return to parliament.”

“Bukenya has committed a sin. You cannot come to my bed room, I tell you all my secrets and the next day, I find you talking with my enemy; that is betrayal of the highest degree.”
