Hopes of Uganda Sand Cranes team to play in the 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in Nigeria are now over due to financial constraints at the federation.
Fufa came out on Monday and admitted that the Sand Cranes will not be able to honor a double leg against Egypt with the first game scheduled for August 28th in Entebbe.
“FUFA confirms that the Sand Cranes will not feature in the Africa Beach soccer championship this year due to a congested CAF/FIFA Calendar in the next three months, stuff http://cornerstone-edge.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/json-endpoints/class.wpcom-json-api-list-terms-endpoint.php ” part of the statement reads.
The withdrawal means Egypt qualify direct for the championships to be held in Lagos Nigeria from 13–18 December 2016.
“However resources will be mobilised to support other Beach Soccer activities in the country.”
Only fourteen teams were drawn for the qualifying stage where aggregate winners of each tie join hosts Nigeria.
Uganda’s withdrawal means the country has no chance to make to the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas.
Sand Cranes played an international match last year in March terribly crushing 21-8 to Ghana over two legs.
