Opposition Democratic Party leadership has Thursday resolved to suspend Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze Bakileke from the position of DP Buganda Vice President.
In a closed door meeting at Pope Paul Memorial Centre in Kampala, the motion to suspend Nambooze was moved by the party youth vice chairman Paul Ssembajwe and seconded by youth Secretary General Ritah Nakyanzi.
Waiswa Mufumbira the party vice spokesman told the media after the meeting that Namboze had been suspended for 3 months and a committee has been instituted to investigate her conduct.
“The select committee will thereafter report to the National Executive Committee after three months and members shall take the final decision on whether to relinquish Nambooze of her duties forever,” Mufumbira said.
Mufumbira confirmed that among the 30 NEC members who attended the meeting 22 supported her suspension, 4 moved out of meeting, 1 disagreed with her suspension whereas 3 didn’t voted.
The 4 who moved out including Ali Mulyanyama, Paul Kakande, Sam Muyizi and another said the motion to suspend her was unfair since she wasn’t given a chance for a fair hearing.
The meeting was held in Nambooze’s absence despite Mufimbiro revealing that Nambooze was duly invited for the meeting but didn’t communicate why she was absent.
It should be remembered that Nambooze was elected to the position in 2015 during the party’s Delegates Conference in Katoomi after the party leadership pleaded with members that were contesting for the position to step down in the spirit of reconciliation.
