Besigye Leaves for Ghana to Attend New President’s Inauguration

Opposition FDC’s Col Dr Kizza Besigye’s is expected in the Ghanaian capital Accra where he is scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the country’s newly elected president Nana Akufo-Addo .

Besigye was invited for the historic function according to FDC’s Deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija.

Appearing on NBS’s Frontline Program on Thursday, visit Besigye confirmed that he would be travelling to the West African country tonight.

Mr Kaija explained while speaking to Chimpreports that  Akufo Addo’s New Patriotic Party which won the election, is one of FDC’s major African allies just like the ruling party in Malawi and Britain.

“You should also recall that Dr Besigye is the current head of the Democratic Union of Africa, (an alliance of centre-right political parties, majority of which are in opposition in their respective countries,” Said Kaija.

Mr Akufo Addo, who had previously lost twice to the incumbent John Mahama, was last year elected President of the West African nation, polling 54% of the vote.

At his swearing in ceremony slated for this Saturday, a total of 11 African Heads of State are expected in attendance, and they include those from Togo, Gabon, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Benin, Nigeria and Guinea.

Another 13 representatives from other countries will also attend the function in the capital Accra.
