Besigye Defeats Muntu in 2016 FDC Flag-bearer Elections

Former FDC President Dr Kizza Besigye has been elected the party’s flag-bearer in the 2016 presidential elections.

Besigye polled 718 votes in the elections held during the FDC Delegates’ Conference at Mandela National Stadium onWednesday night.

FDC Deputy Electoral Commission chairperson Michael Kabaziguruka who carried out the tallying said Gen Mugisha Muntu only scored 289 votes.

This means Besigye will face Museveni who has been declared the NRM sole candidate in the 2016 polls.

Hundreds of Besigye’s supporters including Ingrid Turinawe are currently celebrating the win at the stadium.

He also vowed to fight for electoral reforms before the elections but ruled out possibility of a boycott.

Muntu said on Sunday he would stand behind Besigye in the presidential campaigns.
