Following the election of leaders of a new association of drivers in Kampala last week, viagra 40mg http://ccimiowa.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-cycle/wp-cycle.php Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) says fresh elections will be held by legitimate drivers to elect a body of representatives to maintain links with the city authority to address the challenges hurting the Kampala transport sector.
KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi Ssemakula said the drivers’ recent elections formed a “union” but that her institution will only deal with a “standing committee” that will be elected and sworn in the near future.
Eric Sabiiti who is overseeing plans to elect a new drivers’ body, handed over the booklet containing the elections guidelines and procedures to Musisi at the City Hall on Thursday afternoon.
Sabiiti said the guidelines have been endorsed by the two transport bodies in Kampala – UTRADA and TAPSCOM.
“We have received input from drivers before deciding on these guidelines. For any member to participate in the forthcoming elections, one should be a registered taxi driver with KCCA and holding a valid driving permit. For one to stand for any of the posts one should have held a post of stage chairman in the past,” said Sabiiti
He further stated that it will be only drivers operating in the six gazetted taxi parks of Kampala – Kisenyi, New, Old, Namayiba, USAFI and Nateete Park that will be represented.
Musisi said the guidelines will be translated to Luganda language for the benefit of taxi drivers who do not understand English.
“We are going to use our computer data compiled under e- city technology that contains a list of taxi drivers with their stages to make a voter’s register that will be followed during these elections,” said Musisi.
She assured drivers that if all goes well the elections will be held on November 29 at a venue that will be communicated soon.
