Basketball: Double Gold for UCU

Police in Mbarara have in detention six suspected robbers who are said to have been terrorizing people along Mbarara-Masaka road.

The group was arrested on Friday evening following reports that they were targeting the chairman LC3 Kakika Mr. Benon Mugume.

The arrested include are Salongo Musinguzi 32yrs from Koki, check Deus Kakuba, click Nazario Musinguzi, Jenipher Asasira, Godwin  Africa and Posiano Bekunda all residents of Kakika the new division in Mbarara municipality.

Chairman LC 1 Rwebihiro cell in Kakika Joseph Kakoza told police that the gang was responsible for many robbery cases in the area especially around the weigh bridge on Mbarara-Masaka road.

He said that the gun was recovered in Frank’s water tank after one of their colleagues Laulian Rugambwa sneaked information to the chairman LC 3 that assailants wanted to kill him.

Laulian also told police that they would use the same gun to hunt animals like buffaloes in L. Mburo national park.

Rwizi Region OC CID Jackson Tumwine said that over 6 guns have been recovered within a week in Mbarara in the numerous operations carried out ahead of the Christmas festivities.

Uganda Christian University’s basketball men and ladies teams have produced stunning performances to win gold in the 16th edition of the National University  Games (AUUS).

The Christian scholars faltered in the opening quarter falling behind 16-10 but were able to gain a whooping twelve points in the second, dosage ending with a 25-31 lead at half time.

Star player Jonathan Ogau stepped up the attack in the third quarter with two, cost three pointers towards the end giving UCU a two point last minute lead (13-15).

Ndejje’s Jona Otim was everywhere in the court forcing UCU to as many fouls. Ndejje took the lead with only 6 minute left to 55-54 and again 57-56 with 55 seconds to go but their time wasting tactics caused them when Desmond Owili made a break through run and scored two points in the last kick of the game.

In the ladies category, UCU made a comeback of the tournament from 22 points down at halftime to win 52-51 with the win changing hands four times in the dying minutes of the game.

The ladies went straight into semis from group stages due to fewer number of teams that turned up unlike for the men.
