Ghana became the second country after Senegal, website http://conceive.ca/wp-content/cache/wp-cache-c3326631ce24013adf714103e0f04480.php to book a berth in the knockout rounds of the 2017 Africa cup of nations following their 1-0 victory over Mali in a group D West African affair.
Team skipper Asamoah Gyan was responsible for the goal after heading in the 20th minute and the team clasped on the lead till the end.
“I’m happy for the win and I thank my boys for showing maturity especially in the second half,” Coach Avram Grant lauded his players for the performance. He added that, “In tournaments like this you need to collect points and that’s what we did. We have six points and we played a good game.”
Ghana looked good and lively in the first period but was despoiled in the second with the Malians marauding Razak’s goal. Marega, Coulibaly and Hamari Traore saw their efforts saved or span wide.
However, Grant reckons that his team were not overwhelmed but rather played to the book.
“In the first half we scored and missed many chances but we had to secure our victory in the second half. We didn’t plan to sit back in the second half.
“Mali played a physical game but I used my normal tactic and we won.”
Ghana needs a draw against Egypt on Wednesday to secure the top spot.
