Dr. Celestin Gatarayiha, the Coffee Division Manager at National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), said that smuggling coffee has negative impact on both the exporter and Rwanda at large.

“Parchment coffee is not allowed to be exported since it’s not fully-washed to qualify on external market,” Dr. Gatarayiha said.

He added that the driver who was caught will be charged as the law stipulates.

The police revealed that investigations are still underway to apprehend all those connected to the illegal business.
