Dan Muzeeyi Sserunkuma’s strike at the stroke of halftime was just enough to seal a narrow 1-0 victory for the Red Eagles in a less entertaining affair.

This was the first game for Express FC with David Ndihabwe as the Club’s captain.

The victory takes Express FC to 7 points from their 5 league games, the side has had two victories (Maroons and URA FC), two losses (Mbarara City and UPDF) with just one draw (Kirinya Jinja).

The defeat leaves URA FC to 5 points from 5 games.

The tax collectors have one win (UPDF), two draws (KCCA FC and Maroons) and two losses (Express FC and Kirinya Jinja)

The tax collectors started slowly in the game, struggling in the middle of the park with barely a chance created in the first 20 minutes.

Saidi Kyeyune was brought off (injured) for Shafick Kagimu but the side could not find a cutting edge.

Kirya who played a 4-4-2 system, had Henry Kisekka and Bokota Labama as his twin forwards but the pair fired blanks in the first 45 minutes as the Red Eagles took a 1-0 lead at halftime, with no shot on target.

Back in the second half, substitute Abdul Karim Azan had his header go direct into the hands of Goalkeeper Godwin Buule as URA FC continued to find for the opener.

URA FC started to find the rhythm late in the game but the side lacked enough pace to see off Express FC’s defenders before the Referee blew the final whistle.

Match Reactions

Express FC coach Bamweyana: “We are happy because we wanted a win, and we have got it. It was a massive win as this is one of our direct rival. Its one of these times in the season where we cant afford to drop points.”

URA FC Coach Ibrahim Kirya: “We missed some chances, and I believe that there are alot to improve especially my attacking department.”

Next for both Clubs
Express FC will host Onduparaka FC on Friday October 20th at Wankulukuku in a league game.

URA FC’s next league encounter is a home match with Jinja side BUL FC on Tuesday, October 17 at Namboole.
