Uganda maintains elite military units in Somalia, CAR and South Sudan.

Maj Gen Mbadi extended his thanks to the US Government for the donation and continued support that has greatly contributed in building capacity in the UPDF.

“The US Government has continued to offer help to the UPDF in not only building its (UPDF) capabilities for the Defence of Uganda but also in its regional peace endeavors like in the fight against terrorism in Somalia.” Gen Mbadi said.

Maj Gen Mbadi added: “We pledge to use this donation effectively especially in combating terrorism in Uganda.”

Army spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda said the MRAPs expected to arrive a week or two from today will be a huge contribution not only in the fight against terrorism but also a key contributor to regional peace and stability.

“The US Government is a key contributor to the UPDF in several fields like equipment support and training among others, which has significantly enhanced the professionalization drive in the UPDF and its (UPDF’s) efficiency in operation,” Ankunda told ChimpReports.
