Opposition Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) under the administration of Lira Municipality Member of Parliament (MP), health http://dancehallarena.com/wp-admin/includes/credits.php Jimmy Michael Akena has vowed to take legal action against the parallel party president Dr. Olara Otunnu for illegally organizing a Delegates Conference.
According to Michael Osinde Orachi, discount the party Spokesperson, Otunnu’s term of office ended in March 2015 and his authority to call for any party organ meeting ceased the day he joined The Democratic Alliance (TDA) without approval from the National Council members.
Dr. Olara Otunnu’s leadership was dethroned on May 30, 2015 after the District Conference elections of the party that saw Akena emerge with a landslide victory.
Osinde told Chimp Reports on Wednesday that after the purported handover of power to Otunnu’s Vice President Joseph Bossa, the group has started ‘misleading and mobilizing some party delegates for an illegal Delegates Conference.’
“Our sources have told us that Otunnu with his administration are creating a list of Delegates for the said party meeting; we stand to warn all members that they shouldn’t involve is such illegality,” Osinde said.
Osinde revealed that the group is also deleting genuine delegates from the list, replacing them with fake delegates of their choice.
“To this effect, we have warned the party chairperson of Bukedea, Mzee Ikinyom and that of Arua, Mzee Esiyagi who we found concocting a list of fake delegates to stop it with immediate effect. All members should stand warned, there is no lower level election or Delegates Conference being organized by the party leadership,” he emphasized.
He further warned that in reference to the party Constitution Article 3. 6(2) the party is going to take legal action against Otunnu for continuously masquerading as the UPC president.
“Our Constitution is very clear; if any person stands for an election or acts as an agent or campaign for or finance an independent candidate, he ceases to be a party member. On top of Otunnu’s term expiring in March 2015, he campaigned for independent candidates.”
Osinde revealed that the cabinet meeting sitting on Monday 6, July will decide on when to launch relevant cases against Otunnu before Courts of law.
Otunnu administration spokesperson, Okello Lucima told chimp Reports on phone that the group will be informing the general public of their planned Delegates Conference soon.
