Chairperson of the Kigezi Inter- religious council Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda has slammed the National Resistance Movement MPs who Tuesday resolved to support the controversial removal of the age limit from the constitution.

Terming these as “greedy, selfish and hypocrites,” Gaetano said the MPs were only trying to capture the eye of President Museveni as was the case with Minister Evelyne Anite in 2014 in Kyankwanzi when she knelt down begging him to run as a sole candidate.

The man of God, who formally served in the NRM government that he currently loathes told press, “We must save President Museveni from these self-seekers; these wolves. He has done enough; they should let him rest.”

Gaetano vowed to rally people in the Kigezi region against the members of parliament that are supporting the amendment of article 102(b), noting that as a cleric his work entails guiding the misguided and speaking for the voiceless.

He added that he is ready to face the worst consequence of this even if it is death, noting; “I am ready to be a martyr.”

“As religious leaders we need to come out and speak out; we shouldn’t fear that we will be killed. Archbishop Janan Luwum and the Uganda martyrs were killed when they came out and spoke for what they stood for.”
