AG Nyombi’s Case Faces Disposal

AG Peter Nyombi

Embattled city lawyer Andrew Karamagi has asked Buganda Road grade one magistrate Lamuno Pamela Ocaya to dismiss the case where he is accused of being a public nuisance when grabbing Attorney General Peter Nyombi’s speech.

Through his lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde, page Karamaji asked court to dismiss this case because it appeared as though the complainant had lost interest in it.

Semakadde informed court ever since the case was filed in February last year; the Attorney General had never appeared in the court even when he was summoned for cross examination by the defense lawyers in August last year.

Karamaji’s plea came after state prosecutor Nalungi Esther asked court for a short adjournment on grounds that the state witness who was supposed to testify today was out of the country.

The request was strongly objected by defense saying that the prosecution had intentionally frustrated the progress of the case, ampoule in total disregard of the rights of the defendant.

“I pray that court dismisses this case. Prosecution has so far asked for over seven adjournments without reasonable excuses” remarked Semakade

State informed court that she was taking over the case for the first time and thus needed more time to study the file.

The magistrate adjourned the matter to 26th March 2014 for the state prosecutor to reply.
