Afcon 2017: Tough Draws Await as Uganda Seeded in Pot 4

Continental football body, purchase CAF has released the seedings to be used for the upcoming draws of the 2017 Total African Cup of Nations.

Uganda Cranes, who qualified for the continental Championship for the first time since 1978, have been seeded in the pot four alongside Togo Zimbabwe and Guinea Bissau.

The draw will be held on Wednesday, 19 October 2016 in Libreville at 19:00 local time.

Hosts Gabon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Algeria are the top most ranked team who have no chance of meeting each other in the group stages. Each will be selected in the own group.

The seedings which were approved by the AFCON Organising Committee on Monday at the CAF headquarters in Cairk took into account performance of teams in the recent Afcon qualifiers, finals, world cup qualifiers and finals since 2012.

Draws procedure.
As host Gabon automatically goes to A1 and holders Cote d’Ivoire in C1. A draw will be done for Ghana and Algeria for the positions of either B1 or D1.

The second stage will be drawing of teams in Pot 4. The first team drawn goes to A4, B4 for the second, C4 for the third and D4 for the fourth team. The same procedure will be repeated for Pot 3 and Pot 2 until the groups are completed.

Afcon 2017 is scheduled to kick off on 14 January to 5 February 2017 in the Gabonese cities of Libreville, Franceville, Oyem-Bitam and Port-Gentil.

Pot 2: Tunisia, Mali, Burkina Faso, DR Congo
Pot 3: Cameroon, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt
Pot 4: Togo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Guinea Bissau
