Afcon 2017: Senegal’s Sakho Ruled Out

Diafra Sakho will miss out on the 2017 African cup of Nations tournament due to a back injury

Senegal’s head coach Aliou Cisse will have concerns over his striking department with the latest news indicating Diafra Sakho will miss the African cup of Nations in Gabon early next year.

Sakho who plies his trade with West ham United in the English premier league is ruled out for up to eight weeks with a back injury.

West Ham’s manager, prostate Slaven Bilic confirmed the news indicating the lanky forward will only return at the start of March.

“He will be out for up to eight weeks with a back injury and will return at the end of February or early March, buy information pills ” Bilic told Sky Sports.

The 26 year old forward has struggled with injuries this season making only two appearances for the hammers.

Sakho joins fellow countryman Demba Ba who is recovering from a career threatening injury he sustained in July this year while Papis Demba Cisse has not been considered for the recent engagements and likely to miss out on the final squad to Gabon.

However, this there are reports Sakho could be plotting to snub national team duty as he did two year’s ago when he withdrew from Senegal’s squad with a back injury but played for West ham 18 days later and the club was fined £71,000 by FIFA.

Aliou Cisse will still be spoilt for choice with the available options in Sadio Mane, Mame Biram Diouf, Moussa Sow, Balde Keita and Mousa Konate among others.

Senegal who have been tipped as one of the Pre-tournament favourites after garnering maximum points (18 points) in the qualification campaign  are in group B of the 2017 African cup of Nations with Algeria, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.
