Samsung Launches Galaxy S4 In Uganda

Galaxy S4 Launch at Serena Hotel Kampala


Speaking at the official unveiling of the Galaxy S4 in the Kampala, Samsung Electronics East Africa Chief Operating Officer, Robert Ngeru explained “the beauty of the phone lies in the highly crafted design encompassing a larger 5 inch screen and longer life battery, minimized bezel; all housed in a light (130g) and slim (7.9mm) shape”.


He continued “The Samsung S4 is the one phone that has the global phone market buzzing, it is the most anticipated phone to be released in 2013; pre-orders for the device exceeded 10 million units less than two weeks after the announcement of the commercial launch”.

Mr. Ngeru officially announced that Samsung would provide Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) warranty, which covers screen and liquid damage to the Galaxy S4 at no extra cost for the East African region.

“This is a world first from any device manufacturer”, he said, and added, “The ADH will be incorporated into the existing 24-month standard warranty. ADH will cover 2 screen damages or 2 liquid damages or either of the two.”


ADH will only apply to the consumers who buy genuine handsets destined to this market and must register their Galaxy S4 through E-warranty by sending an SMS with Reg*IMEI number# to 22585 (for those in Kenya)

In a strategic alliance, the Galaxy S4 will be available at selected Airtel and Samsung authorized dealer shops in Uganda like Transtel Forest Mall, Samsung Brand shop Jinja Rd, Simba Telecom Kampala rd and Lugogo, Cyber Intel City centre, Movie Mart at Oasis mall, Celpic on Kampala rd and Elegance at the airport.

Talking about the special offer that Airtel will be launching the Galaxy S4 with Mr. Somasekhar revealed that customers who pre book the phone would receive both a price discount and a 3 month data package.

He however alerted mobile consumers who were interested in buying the phone to rush to their nearest Airtel outlet and book the device immediately because the offer is subject to demand and availability.


The Guest of Honor, The State Minister for ICT Honourable Nyombi Thembo, applauded Samsung and Airtel for joining hands to bring such a cutting edge product to market and helping to improve accessibility of ICT products and services to Ugandans.
