According to Clarisse Nyirazogeye, a daughter to the victim, she suspects her mother was murdered by the people who wanted to steal his precious land.

“My mother was not sick. She lived peacefully with the neighbors. But she had conflicts with people who wanted to take her land,” Nyirazogeye told Chimpreports.

However, Southern Province police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza noted that some people suspected to have murdered the woman are currently being detained at Gisagara District Police Station.

He noted that at the time of the murder, Ndorikimpa was alone in the house “since her little girl was at school.”

The Executive Secretary of Kibirizi Sector, Innocent Kimonyo said following the incident, he held a meeting with the people to remind them that security of their neighbors is everyone’s concern.

“We were really shocked by the death of that old woman. We need people to strengthen the night patrols, and most importantly to care for the people who live alone, and know how they sleep and wake up,” said Kimonyo.

CSP Gashagaza further urged the citizens that whoever has conflict with his/her neighbor must report to local authorities, instead of taking justice in their own hands.

“We are working closely with local authorities to tell people stop fighting against property because it can lead to death. The courts are there, authorities are there to resolve such conflicts,” said CSP Gashagaza.

He added: “In case the suspects are found guilty, they should be punished according to article 140 of the penal code of Rwanda that proposes a life imprisonment for murder convicts.”
