He asked the people of Acholi and Uganda in general to join hands with the government and embrace development in form of factories and industries if their communities are to realize development.

The President told them that in this modern era, someone who fights industries is not only an enemy of the area where he or she comes from but also an enemy to Uganda and the entire African region.

“These people who fight factories are enemies of Africa and the areas where they come from”, the President noted.

The President was on Monday addressing leaders from the Acholi Sub-Region at State House, Entebbe shortly after their concluded tour of Kalangala Oil Palm Project and Kakira Sugar Limited.

Mr. Museveni noted that the modernization lies in factories saying that the factories act as magnet to the people and this translates into development, giving an example of Kinyara Sugar factory in Masindi and Gulu University, among others, which have brought development in their areas.

He, therefore, asked the leaders at all levels to come out and spearhead the fight against poverty by embracing industrialization that will create employment for the young generation in addition to development.

The leaders from Acholi Sub-Region through their memorandum commended the President for the commitment for peace and progress in Acholi land and the country at large.

In their memorandum, the leaders appealed to their fellow leaders and government to expedite the negotiations so that the project may start as soon as possible.

They saluted the President for facilitating the tour saying that it has helped them to acquaint themselves with the challenges and opportunities of establishing such projects.

The meeting was attended by the Minister without Portfolio, Hon. Todwong, former leader of opposition, Ogenga Latigo, political, religious, cultural and community leaders.
