Kenya Chief Justice Gets Death Threats

this site geneva; font-size: small;”>The CJ said he has received death threats from the sect over integrity case against Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto.

The CJ further said that the letter had poisoned pen from a group claiming to be Mungiki warning him on issuing any adversarial ruling on Jubilee presidential and running mate cases.

The letter is said to have been sent by ‘Mungiki Veteran Group/ Kenya Sovereignty Defence Squad and it tends to undermine the independency of the judiciary.

According to Media reports by Standard Media group “The letter, Mutunga said, extols the violent exploits of the Mungiki movement and threaten him with dire consequences should he deliver a ruling detrimental to Uhuru and Ruto.

The CJ said he has invested heavily in creating a new judiciary in the last one and a half years for him to be cowed by threats.

He said the judiciary will not flinch in interpreting constitution as required

“Let no individual, group, candidate or supporter imagine that cowardly and dark acts such as this will cower us,” he said.

He said he has sent the letter to Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro and the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko for investigations.

He at the same time asked Kimaiyo to beef up his security and that of judges in view of the threat.
