Mr Museveni commended the Government and people of China for the different projects they have funded in Uganda and particularly thanked them for being unique by not attaching many conditionalities to the loans.

He, therefore, used the occasion to extend an invitation to more Chinese investors to come to Uganda and carry out investments especially in the agro-processing, mineral development and infrastructure development, among other activities.

He also asked the Ugandan leaders to desist from diversionary issues and focus on promoting development in their country as well as uniting people for the better of our nation.

Engineer Abraham Byandaala who is the Minister of Works and Transport said the construction of the Kampala – Entebbe express highway was in fulfillment of the President’s pledge that he made in his election manifesto.

He urged the contractors, China Communication Construction Company Limited, to do the work to the set standards, with the right specification and in the right time. He said that the Uganda National Road Agency (UNRA) though has just been created has already made an impact on the national road network.

He highlighted a number of projects that the organization is undertaking and those they intend to embark on.

The Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Mr Zhao Yali, said the project will go a long way to cement the excellent relations between China and Uganda, which he noted, dates back to 50 years.

He said that the US$370 million is the biggest single soft loan that China has ever given to Uganda and hoped that the highway will go a long way in the promotion of tourism and ease business transactions as well as contribute to national development.
