The Minister of state for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Hon Geoffrey Kiwanda has Tuesday announced that the Ministry will be creating over 70,000 jobs  this year alone.

Hon Kiwanda added that this will help reduce unemployment and also increase on the productivity of the people hence more economic growth for the country.

“We are going to create over 70,000 jobs which will help increase jobs in Uganda. 2017 is the year of tourism,” he said.

Currently the sector of Tourism only contributes less than 4% of the jobs translating to about 247,000 jobs.

While addressing the media at the Uganda Media Center, the Minister Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Ephraim Kamuntu highlighted Uganda’s tourism potential, “considering its growingly enabling environment.”

He said by 2020 they want the Ministry to be bringing in more than 4million people compared to the 1.5 million they brought in last year.
