At least seven people have been confirmed dead and eleven others seriously injured following a road accident involving a taxi and two trailers along Kampala Jinja High way on Sunday night.

The accident happened at around 8pm at Bulyantete, Buikwe district, a few kilometers away from Lugazi town.

According to Sezibwa Region Police spokesperson, Helen Butoto, six people died on spot while another passed away shortly after being admitted at Kawolo hospital in Lugazi.

Butoto says a trailer (Registration no. KPJ 271L/ZD 1955) emerging from a nearby washing bay entered the road abruptly, hitting a Jinja-bound taxi (UAZ 971R).

“The driver of the second trailer (UAX 170) from Kampala failed to brake and rammed into the taxi,” said Butoto.

The injured have been rushed to Kawolo hospital for treatment while bodies of the deceased remain at the same medical facility’s mortuary for post-mortem.

Moses Kyaggwe, a survivor, attributed the accident to trailer’s driver that joined the highway recklessly.
