Muruli, Nyombi Deny Murder Allegations

clinic geneva; font-size: small;”>Reference is made to the publication that was raised in a local Newspaper (Eddobozi) on October 30, stuff 2012 that the two were involved in the murder of Kalanzi of Kyandyaga village in Nakasongola District which reportedly occurred at the end of February 2012.

This was said during a press conference at Uganda Media Centre.

“I would like to categorically state that I have no idea whatsoever, about the conflict over the said land and murder of Carlos Kalanzi as stated in the newspaper,” said Muruli.

It is reported that the two issued death threats against Peruth Karungi in regard to her investigations into this matter.

“It is alleged that we wrote and signed letters to her and that Eddobozi has evidence of threatening SMS. I have also never written to the Inspector General of Police requesting him to either sack Peruth Karungi or transfer her to another work station,” Nyombi assured the press.

Karungi who is quotated in the article to have stated that she was threatened by Muruli and Nyombi has also denied to have said anything of the sort.

“I would like to categorically state that I have never said that the Minister and Attorney General are threatening me or were involved in Kalanzi’s murder,” said Karungi.

“Much as there is a murder case in Luweero of Carlos Kalanzi who was murdered in April, eight suspects were remanded in court and being tried. Someone is perpetuating false rumors,” she added.

It is reported that Muruli and Nyombi have a land conflict in Nakasongola. “Both of us come from Nakasongla District, however the land dispute is in my constituency not Muruli’s. But I can assure you all that I have never bought land in or near that area,” said Kalanzi .

Nyombi assured the press that both Criminal and civil proceedings are going take place because these accusations are tarnishing their reputation.

“It takes years to build a reputation but it is tragic that a person out of nowhere comes and destroys it. This story has criminal intonations so we have requested the police to follow the matter thoroughly and find the source,” added Nyombi.

He also said that someone in Eddobozi has to take responsibility for writing that story now that they are going to follow civil proceedings. “This affects my reputation as a Christian and also the whole government,” he said.
