Police Break Silence On Barclays Bank Robbery

A private security guard today evening robbed Shs 40 million from a client of Barclays Bank in Kasese.

The client (names withheld) withdrew Shs 180 million from Standard Chartered Bank, Mbarara branch to pay coffee dealers in Kasese but he reached late and decided to bank the money in Barclays Bank, Kasese Branch. On reaching the entrance of the bank, the security guard searched him as a normal procedure. When the guard realized that he had money he demanded to know what he was carrying, the client informed him that it was money and he had come to bank it.

The security guard then put him on gun point and pushed him up to the counter; he removed money from him and took off.

As he was running, he was dropping bounds of Shs 5 million. Police recovered all the 140 million.

The guard has been identified as Lawrence Tumwesigye belonging to Saracen Guards. He disappeared with Shs 40 million.

The Police are currently looking for him and investigations have been opened.
