Health Ministry Official Arrested Over Increased Patients’ Death

According to Patrick Mpiima Kibirango, the Registrar at Allied Health Professionals, the Health Ministry had registered over 93 cases of forgery and have been looking for a person behind this misconduct in vain.

Ekwawu was arrested and shamed today

Ekawu is also a laboratory expert under the Health Ministry in Wakiso and runs several other medical institutions across the country.

“Ekawu has been forging Ministry of Health documents for unqualified nurses and doctors and could get them those fake documents at Shs500, 000 each,” said Mpiima.

He further stated that an investigation was conducted following hundreds of complaints over patients’ deaths resulting from incompetence of unqualified medical staff.

The suspect was paraded at Wandegeya Police Station today

“So many people have died in hospitals but the ministry had failed to get the real cause not until some of the conned medical staff came to us reporting how Ekawu has been over charging them while issuing fake documents for them to practice as doctors,” said Mpiima.

“This prompted us to ask who is Ekawu? We later found out that he was our worker but who operates a private medical institution. Upon our investigations we went up to his medical institution and surveyed it and found it never had required standards to operate and we as Ministry of Health. We informed the Ministry of Education to close his institution but this never happened but for us we submitted the report that the institution be closed.”

Ekawu being led to court

It emerged that sometime back Ekawu was arrested after conning a UPDF officer over Shs2m and detained at Wandegeya Police Station but was later released.

The suspect was yesterday paraded before LDC Magistrate Court to answer different charges of forgery under case file number CRB 2360 /2012 of Wandegeya Police Station.
