Some of the Cairo Bank officials arrested and quizzed in connection with the scandal are the general manager operations, Muhammad Ahmad Tarek; his assistant, Ishaka Ssentongo; the compliance officer, Rahmah Mugeere, supervisor in charge of customer care, Grace Beinomugisha; the clerk in charge of data, Ismail Kizito and Abbey Kaddu, the authorizing officer.

Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, Keith Muhakanizi recently said more than 60,000 retired teachers, civil servants and soldiers would be inconvenienced in receiving their monthly pensions after government suspended the payments over graft allegations.

He said that all pensioners will have to wait for some time to get paid their monthly salaries as Ministry of Finance and Public Service completes the clean-up of the payroll in order to avoid ghost pensioners.

Senior Staff in the Ministry of Finance and Public Service paid the billions of money to non-existing beneficiaries last year between February and November.

The officials in the two ministries are said to have created their own list of the beneficiaries.

Sources told Chimpreports that the list of ex-gratia payments has hundreds of names of which most of them appear more than once but with different pension numbers while others the names are different but have the same particulars.

Several officials from the Internal Audit of Finance were alsoquestioned by the CID. They are Richard Deriga, Josephine Adukut, Dick Twinomujuni and Assistant Commissioner of Internal Audit, Wycliff Mugume.
