Prominent Real Estate Businessman Arrested Over Shs1bn

Instead, police realized, Katende had sold the house to four other people who included a one Laila Bakyu.

After colliding at the house, the victims reportedly contacted Police – which started searching for the real estate mogul.

A few days later, Katende disappeared from Kampala. Detectives later tricked him that they intended to buy a house at Shs300m from one of his estates in Wakiso.

He was arrested as soon as he stepped in Kampala and detained at the Central Police Station (CPS).

Police later discovered there were quite a good number of complaints regarding the manner in which Katende conducts his business.

Some of complainants claimed Katende forged Land Titles to defraud them of their money by promising to sell them houses in Ntinda, Kawempe and Nansana.

Three case files have been opened under numbers 1494/2012, CRB1207/2012 and CRB1078/2012.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Ibin Ssenkumbi, Katende will be soon be arraigned before court for prosecution.

He appealed to those defrauded by the businessman to report to CPS.
