Players of the team were awarded gold medals and a bull by CNOOC Uganda. Hoima Municipality FC, the first runner up, was awarded silver medals and a bull while Masindi FC the second runner up was awarded bronze medals and a goat in recognition of their commendable efforts in the tournament.
The football tournament which attracted 74 teams from five districts in the Albertine region, kicked off on Sep 15, 2012 at the various football stadiums and grounds in the region.
The tournament was organized by the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in partnership with the Empagi Za Bunyoro (Youth of Bunyoro) and sponsored by CNOOC Uganda Limited.
Speaking at the award ceremony in Hoima Municipality, Mr Zakalia Lubega the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager of CNOOC Uganda Limited congratulated the best teams upon winning and pledged to continue supporting the development of sports in the region.
“I congratulate the winners of the 2012 CNOOC Bunyoro Amasaza Cup and encourage them to keep playing the game for the benefit of this region,” Mr Lubega said, adding that;
“CNOOC Uganda will continue working together with you to promote talent and invest in social enterprises such as education, health and environment management, in addition to its core business in the oil and gas industry,” she added.
Mr Lubega affirmed that CNOOC Uganda s presence at this awards ceremony highlights the company’s commitment to promote economic and social development in Uganda as a responsible oil and gas corporation.
CNOOC Uganda is a subsidiary of CNOOC Limited China’s largest producer of offshore crude oil and natural gas and one of the world’s largest independent oil and gas exploration and production companies. On Feb 21, 2012, CNOOC Limited completed the acquisition of significant interests in oil blocks in the Albertine graben making it one of the major players in Uganda’s oil and gas sector.
At the launch of the CNOOC Bunyoro Amasaza Cup, CNOOC Uganda Limited handed over a Sh60 million sponsorship package including;
70 footballs which were used by 74 participating teams in districts of, Hoima, Buliisa, Masindi, Kiryandongo and Kibaale.
Uniforms for all the teams that qualified for the semi finals and finals.
Assorted logistics including; transport, accommodation, allowances to officials and glucose for the players.

And most importantly, the trophy, gold, silver and bronze medals as well as bulls, and a goat which will be given to the winning teams today.
This sponsorship underscored CNOOC Uganda Limited’s willingness to advance the glory of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom through sports in line with the theme of the tournament. “We are happy that the sponsorship has been put to good use to this day.
Today, we witnessed the display of great skills and talent during the final game and we have no doubt that our humble contribution has played a significant role in promoting talent and sports development in this region besides promoting unity among the people,” Mr Lubega said.
