The Central Regional Spokesperson Superintendent Albert N. Gakara urged bank operators to always verify cheques and signatures to prevent bandits from using other people’s cheques.
Supt Gakara also noted that about fourteen people suspected to be connected to cheque fraudulent have been arrested.
He appealed for continued cooperation with the general public through information sharing saying it is the only effective way to fight and prevent theft and other crimes in the country.
If found guilty, Tuyisenge is liable to be punished under article 300 of the penal code which states any person who commits theft without violence or threat shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of these penalties.
