The ceremony presided over the Chairperson of Council, Eng. Dr. Charles Wana Etyem, saw Kiprotich ask the campus to give his wife a scholarship as well which was accepted.

Makerere further gave Kiprotich Shs2m as a token of appreciation for winning Gold at the 2012 London Olympics.

Parliament in August held a special sitting to honor Kiprotich for his excellent performance.

He won the gold medal in the 42 kilometer marathon.

This was the first Olympic medal for Uganda in the last forty years.
