Police has so far learnt that the affected house is at the gate of Bulange Mengo and has been used as an office for the security officials, an armoury and part of it is a kitchen.

We also learnt that this morning the security officers had arrested a suspected mentally handicapped woman who was disturbing people and locked her up in one of the rooms, she caused a scuffle inside the room and in the process fire started.

The Fire experts discovered that the fire started near an armoury which is also near the area where the arrested woman was detained.

The experts also found out that there was a Jerry can of petrol recovered and it is believed to have been stored there by one of the occupants.

Police have started the investigations into the matter and we call upon the public to stay calm as we are determined to get the real culprits in the incident.

1:16PM: The office of the Katikkiro of Buganda informs people in Buganda that the quarter Guard at Bulange main entrance has this morning caught fire.

Four people have been critically injured and taken to hospital. The police, fire brigade and the public were in time to put out the fire and save lives.

Investigations are underway to ascertain the real cause of the fire but the scanty information we have received indicates that fire started amid a scuffle between the security guards and a mad woman who wanted to force her way inside Bulange.

Those injured include the head of security at Bulange Captain Mivule Kisitu, Betty Nakanwagi, Ssebuguzi, Aisha Nayiga and Katende FC.

We urge our people to remain calm and go back to work as investigations go on. Any other developments will be communicated later.

12:02pm: Police has spoken out on the fire that gutted one the guardrooms at Bulange Mengo.

In a brief statement, the law enforcement agency said they suspected a lunatic to have blown up the security house.

Earlier Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante said four people had died in the fire.

Fire has broken out at Bulange, Mengo, and the kingship seat of Buganda Kingdom, killing two people and injuring two.

The fire is alleged to have started start from the armory before spreading to other parts of the building.

The security center made up of four rooms; two security rooms, kitchen and armory is where the fire is alleged to have started from.

From our investigation the previous night the guards had arrested a lunatic who was disrupting the daily work.

He was detained in the armory. It is believed he had a hand in lighting up the place. The lunatic is among the dead.

10:38am: Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba confirms to our news desk: “Yes, fire has broken out at Mengo. We are investigating.”

She says police investigators are already on the scene, taking statements from eyewitnesses.

“Our officers are there getting information from people who were around,” says Nabakooba.

It also emerges that the death toll has risen to four though the deceased are yet to be identified.

10:25am: Fire has Wednesday broken out at Bulange, Mengo, the political seat of Buganda Kingdom.

The cause of the fire remains a mystery as of now but it’s alleged it started from the armory before spreading to other parts of the building.

Police publicist Judith Nabakooba was yet to receive news about the incident when contacted by Chimpreports.

The extent of the damage remains unclear but preliminary reports indicate that Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s chief guard Captain Mivule Kisitu has reportedly been killed in the fire.

Three other unidentified persons have also died in the fire.
