“There are people who are technicians but have no qualifications yet their skills are needed in the Ugandan industry,” said Baryamureeba.
He also said some courses will be taught in local languages like Luganda, Luo and Runyakitala specifically to the holders of a Certificate in Engineering Technology and Practice.
“Most countries train people in their local languages and so we want to give Ugandans the opportunity to study in the languages they are familiar with,” he added on.
Baryamureeba said as part of the training strategy, they will partner with existing workshop owners to strengthen their workshops, offer them training as trainers of trainees and work with them to impart skills on the prospective students.
The method of study will be problem-based learning.
He went further to say that from the 437 prospective applicants who picked application forms from their offices and website, 303 applicants were able to return the forms before deadline and 54 have been provisionally admitted.
“Their applications forms have been passed on to Amity University for final admission,” he said.
The programmes enrolled for include Master of Business Administration-International Business with 17 students, Master of Business Administration-Effective Fast Track with 9 students, Master of Financial Management with 3 students, Master of Information Technology with 10 students, B.Sc. Information Technology with 5 students, Bachelor of Business Administration with 4 students, Postgraduate Diploma in Logistics and Supply Management with 5 students and Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Marketing with one student.
UTAMU will also provide both face to face lectures and Online learning to Undergraduate students beginning with January 2013.
“Those who will not be able to make it for lectures will still be able to follow the courses online without any difficulty,” said Baryamureeba.
Baryamureeba assured the press that ESLSCA (ECLOE SUPERIEURE LIBRE DES SCIENCES OMMERCIALES APPLIQUEES) Business School in France has agreed to start running their progammes where students will study from here in Uganda but graduate from Europe.
“ESLSCA Business School which opened its first international campus in Egypt in 1997 has signed a letter of intent with us to offer its postgraduate business degrees and executive education through UTAMU to serve and upgrade the skills of the Ugandan and Eastern Africa countries business community,” said Baryamureeba.
These programmes include Master of International Business Administration and MBA in Banking and Risk Management.
UTAMU has also signed n Memorandum Of Understanding with National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) for sharing resource persons, conducting joint research and jointly designing tailor-made short courses targeting leaders in the corporate world.
UTAMU opened business last month.
