Rwanda: Women, Girls To Be More Involved In Disaster Initiatives

“The International Day on Disaster Reduction is a day where the world reflects on how much has been done is preventing disasters and planning for better responses in the future.”

She added: “During this week, we have organized a series of events in Rwanda to continue the public education and sensitization on disaster prevention”

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs will support the theme of this year by making women and girls focal point in Disaster Risk Reduction.

It will equip them with sufficient skills in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction trough women associations where they will be shown their role in disaster management cycle.

Between January to September this year, 60 people have died, 102 people injured, as well as 1920 have been damaged and 2387 demolished.

The government of Rwanda, through MIDIMAR has always assisted disasters victims where in first term of this year they gave foods and non-foods which have the value of more 93 million RWF.
