Police Publicist Judith Nabakooba was not readily available for comment but the law enforcement body has in the past days arrested dozens for “holding illegal assemblies” which it says are meant to topple the Kampala government.
The “Walk to Freedom” protests were launched on Monday, paralyzing business in Kampala and Masaka town.
The suspects include “Hitler” Kamanyisa who was picked from High street Mbarara.
He reportedly sustained injuries during a fight with security agents.
“Kamanyisa was hurt and has a swelling on his head and needs medical attention,” said Mwijukye.
Others are Michael Mayanja who was intercepted near Independence Park. Moses Muwonge, Yasin Matsiko and Richard Katsigazi were reportedly rounded up from their homes.
“We call for their immediate release as they have no case to answer. We also demand that before their orderly release, access to them be allowed especially by members of their families for food and medical care and their lawyers for representation,” said Mwijukye.
FDC leader Col Kizza Besigye on Tuesday said protests would continue until “our voice is heard.”
