Detectives who preferred anonymity told Chimp Corps that Kananura is suspected of diddling Ugandans in fraudulent car deals and masterminding torture of his creditors.
Others claimed to have lost millions of shillings in money lending deals with Kananura, a close relative to the First Family.
“You can’t believe it. If what people are claiming is true, then Kananura is a real mafia,” a source in the IGP’s office said.
Kayihura also reportedly discussed Kateregga’s murder with President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, who sanctioned the businessman’s arrest.
“The murder of a bar attendant at Kananura’s Bar has rattled the First Family. Janet expressed shock and urged Kayihura to ensure justice prevails in the case,” a source added.
Several eyewitnesses including Bernard Byaboona and a one Baguma, both employees at Panamera, have been lined up to pin Kananura in two cases of assault and manslaughter.
Police case files registration numbers CR 2830/2012 and SD28/30/9, 2012 of manslaughter and assault, respectively, have been opened up at Kiira Road Police Station to enable investigations as police wait for Kananura’s arrest and prosecution.
Kananura is also a brother to Makerere University Chancellor Prof Mondo Kagonyera.
The flamboyant tycoon is well known for living a lavish life, splashing money in exclusive nightspots and cruising state-of-the-art rides.
Each of his Mercedes Benz cars go for over Shs250m.
It has also emerged that Kateregga’s murder could be the last straw that is likely to break Kananura’s back and wipe him off the social scene.
A few months ago, Kananura’s creditor, Diamond Trust Bank run out of patience with him over a Shs2bn debt and attached several of his prime properties including a plush mansion in Bukoto, a leafy Kampala suburb.
