After being set free, Shaaban arrived in Misrata his hometown with tortured marks on his body and a bullet wound near his spinal cord. He was later sent to Paris for treatment where he died from on Tuesday.

According to the government of Libya, Mr. Shaaban will be honored with a funeral fit for a hero and will take necessary measures to bring his perpetrators to Justice. Well as in Tripoli, protestors want the government to avenge his death.

Shaaban became famous on 20 October last year after being pictured at a scene as Gaddafi was dragged from a drainage pipe where he was hiding in Sirte.
