The Minister said the funds would be used in various developmental activities to reduce poverty especially in rural areas.

“We shall see how much money the project has generated and then decide what to do with it. The money will be used in two ways, one part will mainly be used in rural development, and we also plan to save money which will be used to fund other projects in future,” he said.

The Minister emphasized Rwandans will decide where to invest their money during the next National Dialogue, Umushyikirano.

However, the minister cautioned all leaders and various institutions not to force and decide for people what to contribute towards the fund, stressing that contribution to Agaciro is strictly on voluntary basis.

“Forcing any person to contribute to this fund is unacceptable because there are people who can even contribute above their salary as some have already done,” he said

On this note, the Minister told journalists on Thursday evening that contributions from teachers have been suspended upon hearing some of them have claimed to have been forced.

“I call upon leaders at different levels to let people think and decide for themselves on how to contribute.”

The Agaciro Development Fund is a Rwanda’s first solidarity fund, based on voluntary donations.

This Fund was initiated by Rwandans, at the 2011 Umushyikirano (National Dialogue), to fast-track and own their development and improve the level of financial autonomy of Rwanda as a nation.
