The event has attracted leading BPO and ITES Operators and potential buyers.
The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Industry is one of the key areas Government of Uganda has identified as a long-term solution to addressing issues of unemployment amongst educated youths as well as to increase investment in area of Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES).
The Executive Director, NITA, Mr James Saaka said that NITA has undertaken a number of interventions in partnership with the private sector geared towards this initiative.
NITA was tasked to develop basic BPO infrastructure, brand and market Uganda as a preferred BPO destination and improve BPO governance structures and frameworks to stimulate private sector activities.
Some of NITA’s milestones include successfully setting up a 250 seater BPO incubation center at Statistics House in Kampala and contracted three BPO Operators to manage the center.
NITA has also completed the review and update of the BPO Strategy which provides an analysis of the current state of Uganda’s BPO industry and developed an action plan to increase our country’s competitiveness.
The organization has as well developed BPO Incentives guidelines which provide a basis for the Government of Uganda to provide incentives as well as to determine the eligibility of prospective BPO Operators to the BPO incentives.
NITA has ensured continuous capacity building and training with Makerere University to host training programmes.
The government of Egypt has provided a team of experts to work with Makerere University to train trainers to raise an impact group of 3,000 professionally trained BPO agents.
Executive Director, NITA, Mr. James Saaka said: “ The conclave aims at forging of partnerships, leveraging Uganda as a BPO destination and informing the public and International community about the BPO industry strategies and opportunities and will also act as a showcase of the strides that the BPO industry in Uganda has taken.“
