CNOOC Unveils Shs60m Sponsorship For Bunyoro Amasaza Cup

CNOOC Uganda, http://darkon.org/wp-content/plugins/events-manager/em-bbpress.php an oil and gas company on September 12 unveiled a Shs60 m sponsorship for the inaugural CNOOC Bunyoro Amasaza Cup 2012 aimed at advancing the glory of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom through sports.

CNOOC Uganda’s sponsorship for the new football tournament includes; 70 footballs which will be used by 74 participating teams in districts such as, Hoima, Buliisa, Masindi, Kiryandongo and Kibaale.

Other items are sports uniforms for all the teams that will qualify for the semi finals and finals; assorted logistics including; transport, accommodation, allowances to officials and glucose for the players.

The oil company will also contribute the trophy, gold, silver and bronze medals as well as bulls, and a goat for the winning teams plus whistles for the referees who will oversee the football matches.

Speaking at the launch of the football tournament in Hoima Municipality, Ms Wei Chai, Head of Corporate Affairs CNOOC Uganda said, the sponsorship is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives which underlines its willingness to advance the glory of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom through sports in the region.

“It’s our hope that this humble contribution will go a long way in not only promoting local talent and sports but also unity and culture in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom,” she said.

“All Ugandans have the dream to see the next Stephen Kiprotich emerge. CNOOC Uganda believes that youth in Bunyoro have the capacity to win gold at global events like the Olympics. What they need is support and a proper platform like the CNOOC Bunyoro Amasaza Cup which allows them to showcase their skills.” (Kiprotich is the only second Ugandan to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games after the Late John Akii-Bua.)

CNOOC Uganda is a subsidiary of CNOOC Limited China’s largest producer of offshore crude oil and natural gas and one of the world’s largest independent oil and gas exploration and production companies.

CNOOC Limited has operations in Asia, Africa, Oceania, North and South America. On Feb 21, 2012, CNOOC limited completed the acquisition of significant interests in oil blocks in the Albertine graben making it one of the major players in Uganda’s oil and gas sector.

Ms Chai added that she was optimistic that the sponsorship will take CNOOC Uganda closer to the people of Bunyoro as a reliable partner.

The oil explorer’s participation in the first CNOOC Bunyoro Amasaza Cup further underscores its strong commitment to be a good neighbor and win-win principles.

As an energy company with a strong sense of corporate social responsibility, CNOOC Uganda has the willingness to support programs within the social sector-education and health and environment management and cultural programs.

The football tournament will kick off on Sep 15 at the various football stadiums and grounds in the participating districts in Bunyoro and will last one month and two days.

The games will end on Oct 17, 2012 with a spectacular awards ceremony at Sir Tito Winyi Stadium in Hoima district.

The best team will win the prestigious Amasaza Cup, one bull and gold medals for each team player.

The 1st Runners up will take a bull and silver medals while the 2nd Runners up will receive a goat and bronze medals.

The tournament has been organized by the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in partnership with the Empagi Za Bunyoro (Youth of Bunyoro).
