According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman Kampala Ibin Ssenkumbi, Bulgarians have refused to cooperate in the investigations claiming they don’t understand English.

He said police would hire a translator before prosecuting the suspects in court.

Ssenkumbi said this was not the first time the Bulgarians were being arrested in East Africa.

“They were also arrested in Kenya and were taken to Kibera court where they were released on bond claiming they didn’t understand the language being used,” Ssenkumbi told press at CPS on Monday morning.

The suspects were last Thursday nabbed as they tried to rob Stanbic Bank, Nateete Branch, in broad day light.

The Regional Police Commander Kampala Metropolitan South SSP Jacob Opolot confirmed the incident and identified the suspects as Katsarski Milen, Adrian Dimitrov, Ivan Ganchev Emilov, and Ivonov Anton.

Opolot added the suspects were arrested while withdrawing money from the ATM machine which they had disassembled.

They had disorganized the ATM machine cameras and were using a microchip connected to a phone battery to open the machine.
