Majority of the suspects had fought in several groups against UPDF especially in Northern Uganda.

Chimpreports.com in February broke the news of the nationwide arrests by security personnel.

This followed intelligence that some members of opposition especially in the Diaspora were planning a rebellion in Uganda.

It later emerged that security was cracking down on individuals who were planning rebel activities under Uganda People’s Federal Alliance (UPFA) and Uganda National Front/ Army (UNF/A) groups.

Army spokesman Col. Felix Kulayigye confirmed then that indeed several suspected rebels had been detained for “participating and aiding plans to remove the government using force of arms.”

The rebels were found in possession of weapons such as AK 47 rifles and several rounds of ammunition, documents detailing strategy plans among other pieces of evidence state intends to rely on to prosecute them.

They were subsequently charged with treason and concealment of treason before being remanded.

They are expected to be committed to the High Court for trial.
