He is a resident of Kamuli, Kireka suburb, Kampala.
Upon being interrogated, Nyeri said he was on a mission to kill and rob any person he wished. He said this was in retaliation of several cases in which his phones have been lost.
“I have been reporting to police to investigate the theft without any help. I decided to avenge. I want to kill and also rob so as to get money,” Nyeri, a senior six student, told detectives.
Police established that Nyeri was physically fit and had privately trained in martial arts. That’s one of the reasons he was transferred from Kyambogo Police to Jinja Road police station.
He told police that he had picked the gun from his guardian, ASP Zakarias Nyeri, the retired former South Western regional police commander.
Nyeri also disclosed that the same gun had been used by his colleagues who are robbers that have been terrorising residents of Kireka, Ntinda, Kyambogo and neighbouring suburbs.
Detectives told Chimpreports they would quiz Zakarias on the source of the gun, considering that officers are obliged to hand over their weapons upon retirement.
