The King’s advisors say he has to show that he was concerned about the plight of those who suffered at the hands of security forces during the 2009 insurrection and played a pivotal role in securing their release from prison.

Shortly after the 2009 riots that rattled Buganda region, Kabaka did not visit the injured who were admitted in several hospitals.

The Kabaka is now being told that the trip to Kayunga should take place next month – exactly three years when youth poured on streets and torched buses, police stations and battled security forces, protesting government’s decision to block Kabaka from travelling to Kayunga.

Government said then that Kabaka’s life was in danger as Kayunga leadership had vowed not to allow him step foot in their area.

Since then, President Yoweri Museveni has been in touch with Kabaka with the view of healing the September 2009 wounds.

Sources say some of the King’s advisors have already alerted Nkobazambogo leadership to start preparing for the journey to Kayunga just in case the Kabaka gives it a nod.

The revelation could trigger tension between the Kingdom and the Central government and heighten chances of a possible confrontation between the two parties.

Kabaka’s men say unless President Museveni is pressured through such actions, he will renege on his commitment to pay over Shs20bn the kingdom owes government in unpaid rent dues.

In fact in March, the kingdom had decided to instruct youth to march on Kampala streets if government fell short of releasing the Kayunga suspects.

The theme of the march was “Solidarity with Buganda Loyalists in Prisons & Fundraising for their Families.”

In a bid to avoid chaos, the suspects were released following a series of comical court sessions.

According to information on our desk, the groups which have been informed to start preps for the Kayunga trip not only include the militant Nkobazambogo but also Buganda Youth Council, Buganda Bumu, Ggwanga Mujje, BANGAWA (Baganda Ngabo Workers Association) among others.

In a related development, the Lukiiko will meet again on Monday August 27when Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will officially open the 20th session.

During the recent Lukiiko at Mengo, Katikkiro J B Walusimbi explained that “in the efforts to promote unity among leaders at different levels, the Kingdom has chosen to engage Buganda Parliamentary Caucus in all developmental ventures of the Kingdom for the good of the people in Buganda.”
