Deputy police publicist Emilian Kayima tells Chimpreports.com the blood-spattered incident occurred at around 8:30pm on Saturday night.
“Abubaker was walking home alongside his brother when he was shot dead. Our officers (detectives) promptly visited the scene of crime for clues and investigations are underway,” says Kayima.
The deceased’s brother only identified as Maganda was also injured during the attack.
“Both are residents of Bugiri town council. Maganda was rushed for treatment at Bugiri Hospital,” notes Kayima.
“As of now, no arrests have been made but I will keep you updated with the progress of investigations,” adds Kayima.
The incident is the latest in a spate of organized murders that have rocked the nation.
A few months ago, Sheikh Abdul Karim Ssentamu was shot dead after evening prayers in Kampala city.
A few weeks later, another Muslim businessman, Hajji Muhammad Abu-Baker, was gunned down at his supermarket in Kyanja-Kisaasi, a Kampala suburb in Kawempe Division.
Police say they have formed a secret squad of operatives under the codename Fly Squad, headed by Charles Kataratambi, to crackdown on gun wielding criminals.
