According to the email from Malawi, the cancellation of the game has been done on the advice from the Malawi government following ‘the escalation of the deadly Ebola disease’ in Uganda.

Interestingly, the Ministry of Health has confirmed that the epidemic is now under control.

The government of Malawi further advised their FA to identify another team which is ‘not a health risk’ to the people of Malawi.

The email further indicates how big a blow this has caused their preparations for the final round of the 2013 AFCON qualifiers where they take on Ghana.

Rogers Mulindwa the federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) said that they are organizing another game for the Cranes but they need a team which has qualified to the some round as cranes.

“ We need a team which has qualified for this rounds as cranes but so many countries has come in to play cranes after hearing this news from Malawi,” said mulindwa.

Below is the email:

Dear All The Football Association of Malawi would like to inform you that the friendly match involving Malawi and Uganda which was slated for 15th August 2012 at Kamuzu Stadium has been cancelled on advice from the Government following the escalation of Ebora disease in Uganda.

The Government has since advised FAM to identify another team which at the moment is not a health risk to our nation.

This is a big blow in our preparations for the showdown against Ghana in the 2013 AFCON qualifiers in Accra on 8th September 2012.

FAM has since engaged other Football Associations on the possibility of a friendly match but due to time factor, Malawi will not play a friendly match on 15th August 2012.

Any new developments in as far as the Flames preparations are concerned will be communicated to you all.

Signed by Suzgo Nyirenda
